Winchester Mansions, Cape Town’s iconic seafront hotel and favourite city landmark has undergone an exciting transformation. From revamps to the grand Harvey Suite to upgrades to its entire public areas and amenities, the newly refreshed hotel now offers guests a more spacious, stylish and modern setting.
According to Nils Heckscher, Managing Director of Winchester Mansions, “the hotel now successfully combines its usual classical elegance with a more contemporary feel.”
Among the first of the spaces to receive a luxurious makeover was Harveys bar, known for its stunning views of the Sea Point Promenade. Currently among the trendiest spots on the Atlantic Seaboard, the bar is now fitted with stylish furniture, modern light fixtures, bronzed mirrors and spectacular LCD television sets, giving guests both comfort and style. The mood and décor in the Harveys restaurant has also been revamped. Elegant simplicity takes the stuffiness out of fine dining and leaves only a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy the many delectable offerings from Executive Chef Jochen Riedel and his team. The restaurant tastefully integrates marble flooring and bespoke furniture pieces to create a space that is both inviting and chic. The continuous light pouring in from outside adds both life and depth to the surroundings.
Harvey Suite is where old and new collide in harmony, and the contradiction is surprisingly inviting. The suite subtly shows off trendy pieces that evoke a fashion-forward spirit. The highlight must be the impressive en-suites, with ample space, stunning finishings and somewhat more than the comforts of home.
Winchester Mansions has also upgraded its conference facilities, with the addition of the interestingly positioned new boardroom. Set next to the recently constructed underground cellar, the space pays homage to all that is modern – from sophisticated air-conditioning and sleek LCD projector to trendy meeting room furniture. The Arcadia conference suites have been redone too, and include state of the art audio visual equipment in a convivial setting that is rare amongst the “just” functional spaces offered elsewhere.
Perhaps the most anticipated redevelopment was the recreation of the foyer. As the opening area to all that the hotel has to offer, striking a good balance between grand, hospitable, functional and welcoming was perhaps the biggest challenge. It’s very clear when you enter the hotel that the design team got it just right.
Guests can expect more of the friendly and professional service they are accustomed to at Winchester Mansions. An elegant refuge, the hotel is known for its unique lifestyle offerings such as monthly Grapes, Gourmet and Gallery Evenings, weekly Sunday Jazz Brunches and Ginkgo Health and Wellness Spa. Festive season events include Open House Office Parties, as well as private year end function venues and catering; Christmas day and evening dinners, New Year’s Eve Extravaganza and a New Years Day Hangover Brunch, to name but a few.
